The Venice Venice Hotel: A Hidden Luxury Escape in the Heart of Venice

Venice is a city that constantly reinvents itself, a place where past and future blur into something uniquely alive. Nowhere captures this better than The Venice Venice Hotel, a stay that doesn’t just offer luxury, but a completely new way to experience the city.

We’ve stayed in plenty of Venetian hotels—palatial, ornate, steeped in history—but The Venice Venice isn’t just another grand restoration wrapped in nostalgia. Instead, it’s a love letter to Venice’s radical side, a bold reimagining of a 13th-century palazzo, where contemporary art, design, and history collide. And as dedicated Golden Goose fans, we couldn’t resist seeing what its founders, Alessandro Gallo and Francesca Rinaldo, had created.

From the moment we arrived, stepping off our wooden water taxi onto the hotel’s Grand Canal terrace, we knew we were in for something different. The entrance—whether by boat or through the hidden courtyard—felt like crossing into another world. Ancient stone, flickering candlelight, a reception that felt more like a private collector’s lounge—this wasn’t just a hotel; it was an experience.

Who It’s For

If you love art, design, and hotels that challenge convention, this is for you. The Venice Venice Hotel isn’t for those seeking old-world, five-star formality it’s for those who want something immersive, unexpected, and beautifully curated. It’s where creatives, collectors, and those who crave authenticity over predictability will feel at home.

Why Book The Venice Venice?

For a mix of heritage, craft, and glamour in a world-class setting, with every sensory frill you could wish for (and some you might only come up with in a dream about Canaletto). If you’re looking for a hotel that embraces Venice’s artistic soul while daring to be different, this is it.

Set the Scene

Venice Venice sits along the Grand Canal, right where it curves to reveal the Rialto Bridge. Arriving by water taxi from Marco Polo Airport, we skimmed across the milky blue lagoon, past deserted islands and Great Egrets perched on wooden bricole poles. The city’s silhouette sharpened, palazzos stacked like layers of history, canals narrowing into a labyrinth of light, water, and stone.

Approaching the hotel felt cinematic stepping straight off the boat onto the terrace, where guests barely glanced up from their spritzes. This effortless land-meets-water transition is pure Venice. For those arriving on foot, the courtyard entrance offers a more intimate, tucked-away welcome. Either way, you don’t just check in you enter a story in motion.

The Backstory

The Venice Venice Hotel is the first hospitality venture by Alessandro Gallo and Francesca Rinaldo, the duo behind Golden Goose. They fell in love with the abandoned Ca’ da Mosto Palace one of the oldest buildings on the Grand Canal and knew they had to save it. Instead of restoring it into a museum piece, they reimagined it as a living, breathing dialogue between past and future.

The building has housed everything from merchants and nobles to poets like Voltaire and painters like Canaletto. Today, it’s a work of art in itself, with original frescoes, raw plaster walls, and sculptural furniture seamlessly blending with pieces from Bruce Nauman, Christo, and Yoko Ono.

Arrival – A First Impression Like No Other

Stepping off our water taxi, the contrast was immediate. Outside, ancient grandeur; inside, a semi-submerged, avant-garde entrance where raw Venetian stone meets stark modernity. The check-in process felt more like joining an exclusive private club than arriving at a hotel. A candlelit stone staircase, its steps polished smooth by centuries of history, led us up to reception, where flickering light played on exposed brick walls.

The reception lounge is a moody, intimate space, dressed in dark lacquered wood, plush seating, and curated objects that make it feel like a collector’s private salon. The atmosphere is less "hotel lobby" and more secret members’ club meets Venetian dreamscape.

Design – Where the Past and Future Collide

The Venice Venice Hotel calls itself "post-Venetian", and it fits. Unlike Venice’s grand old hotels, which lean into gilded nostalgia, this place strips Venice down and rebuilds it with edge. Art and design intertwine at every turn Bruce Nauman, Christo, Yoko Ono, and Italy’s Arte Povera movement all coexist in a space that never feels like a museum. Some walls are limewashed, revealing traces of past doorways. Others are lined with sculptural furnishings that feel futuristic yet timeless.

The Rooms – A Mood of Their Own

Our Grand Canal-facing suite felt like a darkly cinematic dream. Deep blacks, soft candlelight, and bespoke furnishings that blurred the line between antique and avant garde. The fourposter bed, framed by dramatic drapery, was positioned so that the first thing we saw in the morning was the Rialto Bridge, perfectly framed by our suite’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

Value for Money

Venice is never a budget destination, but The Venice Venice Hotel offers something beyond just luxury it offers a truly singular experience. This is a place where every detail is considered, from the scent of the bath products to the way candlelight dances across the raw brick walls. If you’re looking for a standard five-star stay, there are safer choices. But if you want to wake up in a room that feels like a piece of art, this is worth every euro.

The Service

The staff at The Venice Venice Hotel are effortlessly intuitive. The front desk team is a wealth of knowledge, offering insights on the best hidden alleys, local spots, and alternative transport routes through the city. Porters maneuver heavy luggage onto bobbing boats with ease, and the restaurant staff glide between tables with that signature Venetian elegance.

For Families

While the hotel doesn’t have a kids' club, families are welcome. Babysitting services can be arranged, and three loft suites accommodate children. Room 21 even has a cinema projector in the mezzanine space for younger guests.

Eco Effort

Sustainability is woven into the hotel’s philosophy. Recycled materials, locally sourced produce, and eco-conscious bath products reduce waste. Most impressively, the underground floodwater tanks installed beneath the building help mitigate the threat of rising waters, ensuring that The Venice Venice Hotel remains a lasting part of the city.

Anything Left to Mention?

The hotel’s Venice M’Art boutique is worth exploring, selling in-house Erose products, limited edition Golden Goose collaborations, and curated design pieces. Just outside, the winding streets of Venice offer historic hat shops, artisanal glove makers, and hidden courtyards where time slows down. Don’t leave without wandering these alleys. Venice has secrets, and The Venice Venice Hotel is one of them.

Our Verdict

Some hotels are just places to sleep, this is not one of them. The Venice Venice Hotel is an experience from the moment you step inside. We’ve stayed in a lot of incredible hotels, but this one has its own energy, its own attitude. From the candlelit staircases to the art-filled suites, everything feels meticulously designed yet effortlessly cool. And waking up to the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge right outside our window? Unreal.

It’s bold, different, and full of character. If you love design, fashion, and places that actually make you feel something, this is worth every penny. And if you’re into Golden Goose, don’t even think twice—just book it.
